"Words of Inspiration and Motivation"
T. Berry Brazelton is a most fascinating man, a true leader and pioneer in the field of pediatrics, health and well-being; he just celebrated his 99th birthday on May 10 and for decades now has made it his lifes' mission for parents, educators and the world to understand the need for a healthy parent-child relationship. Two of his quotes that I like best are as follows:
"Every time you give a parent a sense of success or of empowerment, you're offering it to the baby indirectly. Because every time a parent looks at that baby and says 'Oh, you're so wonderful,' that baby just burst with feeling good about themselves." T. Berry Brazelton M.D.
"You learn more from your mistakes than you do your successes" T. Berry Brazelton M.D.
Marcy Whitbook is a pioneer in the child care field, she recognized a long time ago that there is a need for truly quality child care and a much needed change in how we run our child care centers and treat our employees. Although Mary Whitbook recognized this need for change dating back to the 1980's it's evident today from her 2010 speech that we still have a long ways to go. Here is an excerpt from part of that speech.
"These truths about the early care and education workforce are NOT breaking news. We have known for two decades, since the release of the National Child Care Staffing Study 1989, that limited education, lack of specialized early childhood training and poor compensation are inextricably linked to the poor to mediocre quality common to the majority of early care and education services across the nation. We have known, almost for that long, that the education level and pay of the workforce play a critical role in whether services can improve." (Whitbook, Marcy Ph.D., 2010 "No Single Ingredient: 2020 Vision for the Early Learning Workforce Early Learning Tour, Denver, Colorado)

I enjoyed reading your post and I think that T. Berry Brazelton action toward healthy parent child relationship is so important. People don't understand the important of being involved so we as educator must educate them on becoming involved and including them in their child's education.
ReplyDeleteMistakes are learning experiences. The quote stated above that says "learn from your mistakes" is very important. Your mistakes will help you become a better person. I enjoyed reading your post.
